Why on earth do we continue to vote on ballot measures?

The library, schools, police, fire, water, all want an increase on our taxes so they can provide us with better/more service.  Granted,  they need more money.  But here is the catch.

In Portland they can't even distribute the cell phones in a efficient manner.  Thousands of dollars wasted on sloppy administration of our tax dollars.  Can't anyone in government decide on a program without wasting our money?  ANYONE.

Here is another good one.

The Fed's step in and tell Portland that they are using too much force in their police duties.  After further review,  Portland somewhat agrees.  Here it gets interesting,  Portland decides to spend $2 to $5 million dollars to comply with the Feds and create 32 jobs to spend the money.  Me thinks there is a skunk in the solution.  Something just does not smell right.  What do you bet we will never find out?  Think BIG BROTHER and AUDIT on this one and maybe we will.

A Rant:

Once more the government has stepped in it.  They build a security system for the nations nuclear bomb lab at a $213 million dollars, take seven years to accomplish this, and then find out they need $20 million dollars more to achieve their goal.  BUT WAIT FOR IT---they really need $41 million dollars after further review.   That's more then double then what they asked for last week!

That's our taxpayer money being wasted on incompetent and sloppy oversight of budget.  What part of AUDIT don't they understand.  There is no excuse for this.  I demand accountability of my taxes and I want an audit of this fiasco now.  You know how to reach me so comply if you dare.

Observation:

Ever notice that when the newly elected candidates reach office, the first thing they want to do is use our taxpayer money to renovate their office?  Somehow their budgets include our money to use as they seem fit. Wasteful discretionary spending of our money is not what I intended when I voted.   Frugality is not a word in their vocabulary and I think Big Brother should be watching every penny spent.  We should demand an accounting of every tax dollar and I am first in line for the results.
Just thinking.

Just an idea:

Take a poll and find out what is most important to the establishment.  Let just say its Schools, Fire, Police, roads, and neighborhood improvements.  Have each department submit a budget,  have a public vetting of each budget (eliminate the waste),  find the total money needed and submit a sales tax to the public for discussion.  If the public decides yes then we go ahead with the tax.  Once the total money is raised the tax is eliminated.  You can go several ways with this plan,  such as eliminate the property tax,  use both taxes, or limit the sales tax.  The object is to fund the departments adequately and then stop the funding.  Also to vet the funding for excess waste.

Casino:

It seems that there are a lot of excellent ideas concerning the casino subject.  The best one so far is from Rob Brostoff in Cascade Locks.  Let the native tribes build a casino in the Portland area.  Its a win win situation.

If I remember correctly they offered to build us a convention hotel but the lottery and bar owners complained.  Of course we don't remember that when the native tribes complained, when we took their land and told them they could make blankets and totem poles, that it was best for them.   I guess it depends on who is dividing the money,  the lottery and bar owners,  the corporate establishment,  or the native tribes.  Lets reverse the logic and  let the lottery/bar owners take the hit and maybe get the same results that they purpose would happen if they were the sponsors.

Excellent idea Rob Brostoff.

PERS:

The system is broken.   Fix it and stop using all the reasons and explanations why it is broken.  The taxpayer money being spent  is not being used wisely and we are all suffering together.  It is NOT us against them mentality and it is NOT a fault searching subject.  It is our elected Representatives not doing their jobs. They are part of PERS and they refuse to do what they were sent to Congress to do.  If we want a change then BIG BROTHER will have to change the matter themselves and vote accordingly.  Our taxpayer money is not being spent wisely!

I have an idea:

I want to start a process that addresses some of the needs of our society.  I will start with asking the wealthy to donate to me the money they deem appropriate to accomplish my goal.  The money will be anonymous so that I will not have any reason to be prejudiced.  I will do my job free of obligation and with no salary.  I will open no office, start no corporation or apply the usual methods of starting a new process.   My plan will be totally open to the public for their scrutiny, for the money will be deposited into a bank account that will be available on line and every penny spent will be documented.  I will not be available to the public for recognition nor is it necessary.

Some of my goals:
1.  Identify the goals of neighborhood associations in local areas and implement the ideas that best addresses their needs.  The decisions of course will be theirs.  The only requirement  will be they will have to use local labor, products, supplies, and document every penny spent.  The projects selected will  be open to public scrutiny and will be on line for everyone to judge.

2.  Open up classes in the training of any work related issues that need to be addressed.  This would include construction, computer, office, medical, law, any need that would require local labor and supplies.  The classes would probably be taught at local colleges.  The work classes includes on the job training and local involvement in the teaching of classes.

Any takers?

Ever hear the term "Big Brother Is Watching"?  We probably think of this as Government is watching.  But give this thought a reverse and think of this as we the people are watching.  Big Brother is Us,  and it's time we exercised our power and make our congress accountable to our needs.  This might mean an audit of every dollar spent,  or perhaps---well you think of something.  Just keep in mind that we are Big Brother.

Anyone wonder way PERS did not want the word out on their benefits?  Tax payer dollars were not and are not being spent in the best interest of the people.  I'll say this again, contract or not,  the program of PERS is just wrong.

Like the reports on PERS coming out of the Oregonian.  Contract or not, we the people did not vote on the excess giveaway of our tax dollars.  Sure,  the investments of  the state to fund the PERS looks pretty impressive,  but it did not fulfill the objective.  I don't care how you look at this bonus giveaway, Its just wrong.

QUESTION

Correct me if I am wrong.  I am under the impression that all government employee's work for the taxpayer.  If my assumption is correct, then when I have questions about their income, I have a reasonable reason for an honest reply.  It seems that PERS is fudging the truth and not giving me a honest reply.  Sometime we as citizens of this great state must demand some honesty.  Therefore I propose we set up a volunteer, not partisan,    independent revue of PERS paid for by ---- and here is the question ---- BY WHO?????
It can't be by government, they all belong to PERS.

Also want to know who paid for the new MILLIONS OF DOLLAR SPENT for that new study that PERS   recently revealed to comply all that new information?

More Questions

Just a few questions.

When are our politician's going to realize that we are not idiots?  Stop pandering to the sound bite and give us some ideas on how to fix our problems?

When are the Portland's Police Dept. going to start realizing that we the public are just  a little skeptic of the Grand Jury's findings that are always in the Department's favor?

When are the politician's going to realize that their office has been bought by big money and we the public realize when it happens?  All we have to do is follow the money.  If you are being  bought, at least be honest about it.

Here is one idea for the 1% ers.  Buy up all the foreclosed houses,  give them back to the owners and then write them off.  What are they thinking?

Frigg
What.  The Portland police need a new facility for a finger prick?

AT LAST AN HONEST POLITICIAN(maybe)

Read the Oregonian commentary "Millions in fund balances" page 9.  This subject has been discussed for years and nothing has been accomplished.  I love the part that the agency responded with "reluctant to release the information because it was unaudited".  I would guess the the agency has ever  been audited.   Thank you Chris Telfer ,Rep for the honest attempt for accountability.  Now if we could get someone (perhaps a Dem) to look into the military budgets.  Then we would have Two honest politicians.
